Cancelling a GLP-1 program: notice periods, refunds and how to avoid surprise charges

Billing after cancelling is one of the most common complaints about online GLP-1 programs, alongside refunds that turned out not to exist. Most of it can be avoided by knowing each program's notice period and refund rules before you need them. Here they are, side by side.

How to cancel without a surprise charge

  1. Find your next billing date and count back the notice period. Some programs can charge a renewal early, so allow a few extra days.
  2. Cancel every subscription. If the program has a membership and a medication plan, cancel both, and cancel the medication before the next refill is sent to the pharmacy.
  3. Use the method the program accepts. Mochi, for example, does not accept cancellation by email 5; AltRx and Embody accept email, phone or portal 12.
  4. Get it in writing. Save the confirmation email or take a screenshot of the cancelled subscription, with the date.
  5. Watch your statement for the next billing date, and act straight away if a charge appears.

Prepaid plans: the biggest refund risk

Three-, six- and twelve-month plans are cheaper per month, and many programs push them hard. The risk is what happens if the medication does not suit you, you need to stop for medical reasons, or deliveries go wrong. Terms differ sharply:

Customer reviews include people who prepaid for a year of a product that did not work for them and could not get money back. Start month to month, and prepay only once you know the medication and the service work for you.

If you are charged after cancelling

  1. Contact the program first, with your cancellation proof, and ask in writing for the charge to be refunded.
  2. If it refuses or does not reply, dispute the charge with your card issuer. For a credit card, do it in writing within 60 days of the statement that first shows the charge; the FTC explains how 7.
  3. Report it. Complaints to your state attorney general, the FTC and the BBB create a record. In July 2026 the FTC, California and Utah sued Hims & Hers over subscription charges and cancellation, which shows regulators are watching this; the company denies the allegations 8.

Clear terms are a good reason to choose one program over another. Our #1 pick, TotalRx, refunds you in full if a clinician does not approve you, refunds unshipped months on longer plans, and lets you cancel any time with 72 hours' notice.

Questions and answers

How do I cancel Ro?

Online or by email, at least 48 hours before your renewal. Ro does not refund membership fees already paid.

How do I cancel Hers or Hims?

In the app or online under My Subscriptions, by email or by phone, at least two days before your next billing date. At Hims, cancelling the membership also cancels the medication plan; cancelling only the medication does not cancel the membership.

How do I cancel Mochi?

In your account or by phone. Mochi says email requests are not valid. Cancel the membership and the medication subscription separately.

Can I get a refund if I am not approved?

At most programs, yes, at least in part. TotalRx and WellMedr refund the first payment in full if the clinician does not approve you. AltRx and Embody refund only the unused portion after a medical disqualification, minus services provided.

Can I get a refund if the medication does not work?

Rarely. LifeMD has a 10% weight loss guarantee after 12 months with strict conditions, and SkinnyRx has a guarantee after 90 days with logging requirements. WellMedr's written policy says a lack of results does not by itself qualify, despite its advertised guarantee.

What if I am charged after cancelling?

Contact the program with your cancellation proof and ask for a refund in writing. If that fails, you can dispute the charge with your card issuer, and you can complain to your state attorney general or the FTC.

Is it better to prepay for three or twelve months?

Only once you know the medication suits you and the program delivers reliably. Prepaid plans save money, but at several programs they cannot be refunded if you need to stop.
