- Paying cash, the two cost about the same: a $39 first month of membership, then $149 a month, plus the medication. That is about $298 a month at the lowest dose and $400 to $600 once the dose goes up.
- Choose Ro if you have insurance that might cover a GLP-1. Its team handles prior authorization and appeals, and prepaying cuts its membership to as little as $74 a month.
- Choose Hers if you will pay cash and want Ozempic® as an option, or you already use Hers for something else.
- If you would rather not pay a membership at all, a compounded program costs far less. Our #1 pick, TotalRx, is from $129 a month with the price locked for life.
Ro vs Hers at a glance
Both programs are run by large, listed US telehealth companies, both prescribe FDA-approved brand-name medication, and both put a membership in front of it. If you only compare the advertised "from" prices, they look the same, because they nearly are 12. The differences are in the details below.

| Membership after that | $149/mo monthlyFrom $74/mo if you prepay a year | $149/mo |

Prices and terms read from each company's own pages on October 12, 2026; Trustpilot figures read the same day and cover every product each company sells, not weight loss alone 56.
What each one really costs
Neither membership includes the medication. You pay the membership for access to a clinician, the care team and the app, and then you pay for the medication itself, at prices that step up as your dose increases. Both companies charge the manufacturers' own self-pay prices, which is why their medication prices match 34.
| Medication | Starting dose | Usual dose | Monthly total with $149 membership |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wegovy® pillSemaglutide, daily | $149 | $2999 or 25 mg | $298 rising to $448 |
| Foundayo®Orforglipron, daily | $149 | $2995.5 mg and up | $298 rising to $448 |
| Wegovy® penSemaglutide, weekly | $199first two months | $349up to 2.4 mg | $348 rising to $498 |
| Zepbound®Tirzepatide, weekly | $299 | $4497.5 mg and up | $448 rising to $598 |
The "usual dose" column matters more than the first. Most people move up from the starting dose within two or three months, because that is how these medications are prescribed, so the right-hand figure is the one to budget for. A first year on the Wegovy® pill, stepping up to the usual dose in month three, comes to about $5,000 at either company on a monthly membership.
Ro has one lever Hers does not: prepay the membership for a year and it falls to as little as $74 a month 1. That saves up to $900 a year, but you are committing to Ro for twelve months, and membership fees already paid are not refunded.
The most common complaint about both companies on Trustpilot is that the $39 headline turned out to be the membership only, with the medication charged on top 56. It is not hidden, but it is easy to miss. Read the checkout total, not the banner.
Insurance: Ro's real advantage
If there is any chance your insurance covers a GLP-1 for weight loss, Ro is the stronger choice. Its team checks your coverage, files the prior authorization and handles appeals, and it says Wegovy® can cost as little as $25 a month when commercial insurance and the manufacturer's savings offer both apply 1. The membership itself is never covered.
Hers does not bill insurance. You pay up front and can usually claim the cost back from an HSA or FSA. If you know your plan excludes weight loss medication, which many employer plans now do, this difference disappears and the two are back to the same price.
Medication choices
The menus are almost identical: the Wegovy® pill and pen, Zepbound® and Foundayo®, the daily orforglipron pill, at both. Hers also lists Ozempic®, which is approved for type 2 diabetes and prescribed off-label for weight loss 2. Neither now offers compounded semaglutide as a standard choice; Hers keeps it for cases where a provider decides it is clinically necessary.
If you specifically want a pill rather than an injection, both can prescribe one, and at both the pill costs the same as the lower pen doses.
Sign-up, delivery and support
Both run an online assessment with a clinician review, usually within a day. Paying cash, Ro says orders typically ship in five to seven days; going through insurance adds paperwork and can take one to three weeks. Hers advertises a treatment plan within 24 hours and free shipping.
On support, both companies are well reviewed for how quickly prescribers reply and both draw complaints about reaching a chatbot rather than a person when a billing problem comes up 56. Hers's lower Trustpilot score includes its hair, skin and other products, so it is not a pure weight loss measure; the same is true of Ro's.
What customers say about each
Read side by side, the reviews tell a consistent story. People like the results and the convenience at both companies. The complaints are mostly about money: the membership being missed at checkout, medication costing more than the advertised price once the dose goes up, and charges after cancelling 56.
Hims, Hers and Ro: where Hims fits
Hims and Hers are two brands of the same company, Hims & Hers Health, Inc. 7. Hims is marketed to men and Hers to women, and the weight loss programs work the same way, with the same membership structure and medication menu. If you are comparing Hims with Ro, everything on this page about Hers applies.
Which should you choose?
- Ro if you have commercial insurance that might cover a GLP-1, you want someone to handle the prior authorization, or you are happy to prepay a year to cut the membership.
- Hers if you are paying cash anyway, you want Ozempic® on the menu, or you already use Hers and like its app.
- Neither if the membership is the part you object to. Compounded GLP-1 programs charge one price that includes the clinician. TotalRx, our #1 pick, starts at $129 a month for compounded semaglutide and $174 for compounded tirzepatide, with no membership and a price that does not change at renewal. Compounded medicines are not FDA-approved, which is the trade-off for the lower price; our guide to membership fees sets out the full comparison.
Questions and answers
Is Ro or Hers cheaper for weight loss?
Paying cash, they are close to identical: the same $39 then $149 membership and medication priced at the manufacturers' self-pay rates. Ro is cheaper if you prepay its membership for a year (from $74 a month) or if your insurance covers the medication.
Do Ro and Hers both charge a membership fee?
Yes. Both charge $39 for the first month and $149 a month after on a monthly plan. The medication is billed separately. Insurance does not cover either membership.
Does the Ro or Hers membership include the medication?
No. The membership pays for the clinician, the care team and the app. The medication is an additional charge that rises as your dose rises.
Which one takes insurance?
Ro will work with your insurance to get the medication covered, including prior authorization and appeals. Hers is cash-pay; you can usually claim HSA or FSA reimbursement.
Are Hims and Hers the same company?
Yes. Both are brands of Hims & Hers Health, Inc. Hims is aimed at men and Hers at women, and their weight loss programs work the same way.
Do Ro or Hers sell compounded semaglutide?
Both now lead with brand-name medication. Hers says compounded semaglutide is limited to cases where a provider considers it clinically necessary, and Ro's weight loss menu is reported to be brand-name only.
How do I cancel Ro or Hers?
Both ask for at least 48 hours' notice before your next charge. On Hers, the membership and the medication plan are cancelled separately. Ro does not refund membership fees already paid.
What is a cheaper alternative to Ro and Hers?
Compounded GLP-1 programs with no membership fee cost much less. TotalRx, our #1 pick, starts at $129 a month for compounded semaglutide and never raises the price.
